Hi All,
Where else, besides the System Access Mobile Network, Blind Mice Mart, and my local library for the blind can I find described movies or tv shows? I know of a podcast which describes Alias and Modern Family which is quite good, I'm just interested to know if there are any other plces to find movies.

Would that podcast be at
http://moviesfortheblind.com
? That's the only other place I can think of where you can find free movies/shows with audio description, besides the ones you mentioned. I'd also be interested to know of any more places with movies/shows with audio description. I'm not even close to done with Blind Mice Mart's and Movies for the Blind's selections, but would be curious to know anyway. *smile*

Yeah, I agree with her..though I myself am not done with blindmice and never heard of the one that was just mentioned. :)

The system access mobile network's selection is massive, even bigger then blind mice mart I think.

whats the website for the system access site with the described movies?

Post 6 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Monday, 11-Jul-2011 0:58:23

I tried to access that but for some reason it won't let me.

Post 7 by mat the musician (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Tuesday, 12-Jul-2011 15:08:24

To access it, you must download the 30-day trial from Serotek.com. The website for the network is samobile.net.

I wish thephysical DVS movies would get with the times and go with Blueray or DVD. Then they could make the descriptions another audio track the way they do with commentary. I know some DVD's already do this but...

Post 11 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Sunday, 11-Dec-2011 14:16:13

I'm not a member of SSA, I've tried in the past however for some reason it hasn't worked out. Since the blind mice web site has changed, does anyone know of any other place on the web where I can download discriptive vidios for free?
Thanks!

SamNet is great, especially the Theatre of the Mind section, it has practically every single Audio Drama you can think of.

Blind Mice Mart is now the Blind Mice Mega Mall and you need a user account for it to access the movie vault that has, as far as I know, gotten a lot more stuff recently such as Fringe three or four seasons and stuff likand well too much to go through.

The site is now http://www.blindmicemegamall.com Still all hosted on Send Space as far as I can tell.

I personally wish they would get on the ball, I mean how honestly hard would it be to add one more audio track to Blu-Rayand DVD movies with audio descriptions?

I wish this would become more requirement like subtitles on DVDs and such for the deaf, the world would be a much better place if it were.

Post 15 by rat (star trek rules!) on Monday, 12-Dec-2011 23:38:28

the account on the blind mice mart site is free and yeah they have updated their movies they have so much on there now and the organaztion is mazing now.

Adding an extra track to a DVD or Blu Ray is possible and has been done. Recent disney movies are starting to be really good about it. Otherwise it seems only movies featuring blind characters (Ray, Daredevil, and Blind Dating for instance) feature DVS. It's really unfortunate because it's really hard to "watch" movies with my wife using a DVS download from somewhere like blindmicemart because for some wierd reason, the mp3s seem to go just a few micro seconds faster than an actual DVD or AVI. No idea why that is. I'm not sure how difficult subtitling is compared to DVS. Subtitling takes a lot of work because it requires coding , but DVS requires a lot of understanding of the movie and the like. Plus they have a nasty habbit of turning the movie way down during any description and only describe the "important" parts. I guess it's really hard to describe everything in such a short space.

Post 17 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Saturday, 31-Dec-2011 18:27:47

Hmm, guess they think we only want to watch movies about blind folks. Me, I'd like to see Beavis and Butthead with DVS LOL.

Thanks for the info on Blindmicemegamall. I couldn't figure out where the movie vault went.
I really wish they would use something other than send space though as I've gotten at least 2 viruses from that site and really would rather not get another on my new computer.
Oh well. Thanks for the info.

If you use Firefox, you shouldn't have that problem with Sendspace. It's a lot more secure than IE, plus you can download a plugin called Adblock+ for even more security. It's really the ads and pop ups and all that crap Sendspace is cluttered with that causes viruses. Then again, I have a max membership, so I use the wizard now anyway rather than download from the site. But if you don't want to pay for a max membership for whatever reason, I recommend using Firefox to download your files instead.

I have not hire of any at the top of my head .
The movies that I like to watch describe is budi and the beast and that is about it.

Hmm, well I'm going to look at this movies for the blind site. I've been on this place called the "conversation station" which is a phone line, and they have described movies and TV serieses, and I even found Star Trek Voyager and TNG, which I didn't find on blind mice mart, and I really want to know where they got them! One of the people said "its for me to know and you to find out", when I asked them about it, but but I didn't find out! :( So I'm gonna keep looking, and I will find out, or those line owners will be assimilated, then I will know all! LOL

I've rented some movies which had the discripted feature on it, try looking under special features or whatever next time you rent or get a movie.

Post 23 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Wednesday, 18-Jul-2012 11:18:25

Problem is not all movies have that.

Post 24 by Villanelle from Wales (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 19-Jul-2012 4:51:19

what's this conversation station thing all about? is it expensive? I guess if you were watching a long movie then it would get costly!

Post 25 by devinprater (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 19-Jul-2012 6:37:24

Its a phone line. The service itself is free. But I really really want to know where they get those star trek described eppisodes! I know the orriginal series ins on blind mice mart, but the others, like TNG, DS9 and Voyager are not! Therefore there must be some movie site you all have been forced into secrecy about.

SamNet has The next generation as well as ds9. If you get a subscription, you'll find it.

I gave up my SamNet subscription about 6 months ago, so things could have changed, but last time I looked, they only had a handful of DS9 and Next Generation episodes. There were less than 10 of each. Not worth getting a subscription for if that's all you're looking for.

I wonder if anyone's ever tried to audio describe cartoons? I don't mean feature length animated films, but the short cartoons like Looney Tunes or Popeye or that kind of thing. I love old cartoons, and yes, even many of the public domain cartoons can be quite visual. However, I fear nobody would want to do that unless they determined there would be a market for such things.

Post 29 by mat the musician (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Saturday, 04-Aug-2012 11:37:12

SamNet doesn't really have much going for it, if you're lookingfor TV shows, since they only have a couple of seasons for each show, and not all shows are complete. For example, they only have seasons 3-7 of 24. I wonder why the other seasons, as well as the film which goes in between 6 and 7, were not described.

Post 30 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 01-Sep-2012 1:30:39

i agree with having dvs for short cartoons and tv shows..that'd be cool!

Post 31 by Godzilla-On-Toast (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 02-Sep-2012 15:30:29

The problem with wanting DVS on anything is you need humans to watch the item in question, write a script for the cleverly placed and timed descriptions, and a human to record the things. This is why, although I enjoy DVS when I can get it, I do not depend completely upon it. Most of the stuff I own on DVD right now will probably never be described by anyone, ever, because nobody wants to audio describe B-grade or worse movies of any genre, which is most of the sorts of movies I enjoy. Yeah, would love some description on a movie like "Invasion from Inner Earth" but it's too essoteric and probably too bad for most people to stomach.

Yeah, I can see your point..

Post 33 by mat the musician (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Sunday, 16-Sep-2012 13:26:37

A bit off-topic, but I found a way for Blind Mice members to download descriptive videos onto their I-devices.
There's an app called downloads lite. When you launch the app, a web-browser comes up onto Google. Google Blindmice Mart or type it into the adress box. Then log in, and click on the movie vault. After finding the film you want, click on its title. A sendspace folder will come up and when you click on "Click here to start download from Sendspace," a popup will appear asking if you want to open, download, or save as.
You can check the status of your download under the downloads tab. Note that the kbps is always incorrect and jumps erratically.
When the download is complete, go to files, and select the file you want. A media player with the uual play, ff etc, will come up and the file will begin to play.
Hope this helps.
